Surprise tattoos!

This tattoo is on my friend Evanne's friend, Emily. It's kind of hard to tell what's going on in the picture, but it's on her shoulder blade. The design is a celtic dragon, slightly redesigned and done in sienna brown ink.

This tattoo is on my wonderful friend Charlie's wonderful boyfriend, Sean.

Both of these tattoos are on people who are greatly cared about by people I care about. Awesome. I appreciate everyone who recommends their friends and loved ones get tattooed by me. Thanks so much guys!

California and a Tall Ship

I just got back from a trip to LA to see the fam for Christmas/Hannukah/Whatever.
Here's a cute picture of Matt and me on the pier, in Santa Monica, on Christmas Eve. Aww.

This is what I worked on today, at the shop. Evanne's Mayflower. We're pretty much done, but I'm going to add a few details and fix some things up in a touch up session.

Koi Tattoo Transformation

This is the tattoo I finished today.

This is what it looked like before I fixed it up (with the stencil of my addition of flowers and water).

It felt really good to be able to fix this up for Nicole. She was so happy with the final result.

Snowflake/snowboard Half Sleeve complete!

It has been a long time coming, but this tattoo is finally done!

I did the large snowflakes on top of Lily's forearm quite a while ago. It was one of the first large tattoos I ever did. Then when she decided to finish off the rest of the forearm, I put together this mountain/chairlift scene to squeeze into the awkward space left over from the snowflakes. I think it worked out nicely.

P.S. I didn't do the lettering, visible in the last frame.

In other news: The shop now has a flickr account. Check it out:

And, in case you haven't seen it already, the Under the Needle website now features a page about me!! So look at that too!

Stone Totem Flash

Alex and his friends are visiting from France and came by Under the Needle today. I got to tattoo this piece of flash on him. Really fun design. I was stoked to get to tattoo it.

Some Tattoos

Here's what I did at Under the Needle today (and yesterday). Enjoy

Started that graveyard scene on Dan today. My friend Evanne had an appointment, but couldn't get tattooed, so she brought Dan as a replacement. (Fyi, that is an awesome thing to do. Thanks to Evanne for recruiting someone to fill her spot). He already had that tree and wanted to add onto it. More to come....

The script is on Noa, a birthday present, her friends pooled together to buy her. Thanks guys!

These tattoos were lots of fun and both the result of teamwork. Woo hoo! Don't forget, we're all in this together.

Koi Fix Up

Nicole got this koi tattoo 6 months ago and today we started to re-do it. She'll be coming back in 2 weeks to get it finished.

Colorful Seahorse

Patrick came in to touch up a different tattoo and ended up getting this little guy. It's modeled after the seahorse from the movie, The Life Aquatic.

Tree of Life Creations

My wonderful cousin, Kassandra, has been working on getting her greeting card business, "Tree of Life Creations", up and running. She now has a website where you can view and purchase her beautiful, one of a kind cards.

You can find her website by clicking this link: All proceeds go directly to paying for her Lyme Disease treatment and medical bills. So please, take some time and check out her greeting cards. Any support is appreciated! Thanks everybody.

Here are some examples of her cards:

Ship Shape

Started this ship on Evanne today. It's modeled after the Mayflower, and the flowers are also mayflowers. I apologize for the slight blurriness of the photo. Stay tuned to see it finished!
Thanks Evanne! You're the best.

Purple Flowers!

2 days of purple flowers. Yesterday I fixed up an old cover up on Lynsey. Just one more reminder that it's probably not a good idea to get your boyfriend's (or girlfriend's) name tattooed on you.

And today, I gave Marianne another flower. This time a purple peony. Marianne is in her late 50's and works at the Downtown Service Center next door to the shop. She's a hoot and has accumulated a good handful of flower tattoos. She calls forearms her botanical gardens.

Best wishes, everybody.

Marsh Raven

It has been a pretty busy day at Under the Needle. The hum of tattoo machines has filled the air since we opened at noon. It's so nice to be surrounded by happy tattooers. And a busy tattooer is a happy tattooer.

I got to do this tattoo today for Joy (aka "Marsh Raven").

It's so nice to be able to do what I want and experiment a little with a client who is up for anything. This was only Joy's second tattoo (I did her first one too), and I am excited to tattoo her more in the future!

Cute Mama and Papa tattoos on Miss Bailey.

It was really nice to do some clean, simple, classic tattoos. Thanks a million to Bailey for coming up with the idea and gettin 'em!

B&G Montana Flowers

You can't go wrong with script and flowers.
Though Shavon wanted to kill me by the end of this tattoo, both of us ended up really happy with it. Montana state flowers in honor of mom and dad. Awesome walk-in experience.

A less traditional take on the sailor swallow tattoo. Thanks Jon!

Gun Bunny

Sometime military tattoos can be a good time. Just did this tattoo on a Gunner's Mate in the Coast Guard. Lower back. Lots of fun.

Winter Wonderland Tattoo

Worked on Lily's snowy scene tattoo a little bit today. We did the big snowflakes, on top of her forearm, a while ago, and are adding in a chairlift/mountain scene to finish off the awkward space left on the back of her forearm. Stay tuned to see the finished product!

Autumn has hit Under the Needle

Slow night at the shop means lots of time to draw and make a mess.

...And then post a picture of it on my blog. *sigh*

Seriously though, everyone should start planning out the tattoos they want to get this winter so we aren't stuck here with nothing to do!

Toad Prince

Princess and Toad Prince watercolor.

I painted this in my down time at the shop. When you've got nothing to do but take walk-ins all day, it's nice to have a project to do in between. Under the Needle has so many brilliant artists I feel very privileged to be able to learn from them and create art alongside them.

Prints available upon request, $15 each.

Hellion Unicorn

Finally finished this tattoo on Ego. Started it quite a while ago, when I hadn't been tattooing for very long at all. Still, it was a lot of fun.

Holy Circles and Straight Lines Batman!

Dear Dr. Who, Thank you for making my life a little more difficult today.

Just kidding, this wasn't that bad. But wow, I don't think I've ever seen an idea for a tattoo that had more straight lines and concentric circles than this one!

Painted Lady

Just finished this painting. Representing Washington with the good old Rhododendron.

I would really love to tattoo something along these lines on someone. A pretty lady with some type of local Pacific Northwest plants and flowers. I have been studying the flora of the Puget Sound area and am immensely enjoying translating those plants into tattoo designs.  So if you're up for it, let me know.

Rhododendrons and Pencil Shavings

Working on this drawing for a painting study. I plan on drawing and painting more pretty ladies with local Washington foliage. Stay tuned for more pictures.

Rainy City

Thanks to Javon and his friends for coming in to get some late night tattoos.

Ketchup Popsicle

This tattoo is on Joey Nix. Fabulous local Seattle muralist and all around kick ass artist. As the saying goes, "He's such a good sales man, he can sell a ketchup popsicle to a woman in white gloves".

Check Joey Nix's Art Blog and see some of his amazing work. Thanks Joe!

Kyle's Salmon Tattoo!

Kyle trekked out to Under the Needle from Port Angeles today to get tattooed. We finished the lower part of his leg with this sic salmon! Lots of fun. Thanks dude.
